Champions League Matchday Four: Como Make History with a 9-1 Win, Inter Respond and Roma Collapse at Old Trafford

@condividisulweb · 05.11.2026, 03:10

European football witnessed an extraordinary night during the fourth round of the 2026-27 UEFA Champions League. Eighteen matches produced 70 goals, several major surprises and a significant reshaping of the league-phase standings.
The headline result came from France, where Como delivered a remarkable 9-1 victory against Lens. Cesc Fàbregas' side produced one of the most extraordinary attacking performances of the competition, with Anastasios Douvikas scoring three times.
There were very different stories for Italy's other representatives. Inter returned to winning ways with a convincing 3-0 victory away to Feyenoord, while Roma suffered another painful European comeback, losing 3-2 to Manchester United after establishing a two-goal lead.
Napoli also endured a difficult evening, going down 4-1 against Porto in Portugal.
Elsewhere, Real Madrid maintained their perfect record with a dramatic 3-2 victory over AEK Athens, Paris Saint-Germain demolished Villarreal 6-0, and Bayern Munich secured an important away win against Atlético de Madrid.
After four rounds, PSG and Real Madrid share the highest points total with 12, although the French champions lead on goal difference. Arsenal are third with ten points, while Como have moved into fourth place on nine.
The latest results underline how unpredictable this expanded Champions League format can be. Established European powers remain competitive, but Como are showing that ambitious teams can challenge the traditional hierarchy.

Como produce an unforgettable European performance

Como's 9-1 victory over Lens was the defining result of Matchday Four.
The Italian club travelled to France with the intention of imposing its attacking football, and the performance quickly developed into a one-sided contest.
Cesc Fàbregas' players found the net early and continued to exploit the spaces offered by the home defence. Lens struggled to respond to the visitors' movement, technical quality and speed in the final third.
Anastasios Douvikas was the outstanding performer, scoring a hat-trick and setting the tone for an extraordinary evening.
Nico Paz, Da Cunha, Kempf, Liberali, Baturina and Papaccioli also found the net for Como, while Aguilar scored Lens' only goal.
The result has a major impact on the league-phase standings. Como now have nine points from four matches, having won three times and suffered only one defeat.
Their attacking record is particularly impressive: 19 goals scored and just six conceded. A goal difference of plus 13 places them among the most productive teams in the competition.
This is no longer simply a story about an ambitious club enjoying a brief period of success. Como are developing a recognisable identity and demonstrating that their football can be effective against established European opponents.
It would be premature to make predictions about their final position, but their current performance gives supporters plenty of reasons to believe that a place in the knockout rounds is a realistic objective.
The challenge will be to maintain this level when the schedule becomes more demanding.

Inter answer their critics with a convincing victory in Rotterdam

Inter travelled to the Netherlands needing a positive result after their disappointing derby defeat against Milan.
Cristian Chivu's team delivered exactly the response they needed, defeating Feyenoord 3-0 at De Kuip.
The visitors approached the match with discipline and attacking intent, controlling important periods and limiting the opportunities available to their opponents.
Yann Bisseck opened the scoring with an excellent finish, giving Inter an advantage that helped them settle into the contest.
Francesco Pio Esposito then extended the lead after the interval, before Piotr Zielinski completed the victory with the third goal.
The performance was important not only because of the three points, but also because of the manner in which Inter managed the match.
Their Champions League campaign had started with defeats against Real Madrid and Club Brugge. However, victories against Shakhtar Donetsk and Feyenoord have changed the picture.
Inter now have six points after four matches and are back in a much stronger position to compete for qualification.
There is still work to do, particularly if the Nerazzurri want to challenge for a direct place in the last 16, but the Rotterdam performance provided a welcome indication of their potential.

Roma suffer another painful comeback at Old Trafford

Roma's European campaign has been marked by frustrating moments, and their trip to Manchester produced another difficult evening.
Gian Piero Gasperini's team started brilliantly, taking a 2-0 lead through Matías Soulé and Donyell Malen during the opening seventeen minutes.
The visitors appeared to have the match under control, with their attacking movement causing serious problems for Manchester United.
However, the home side gradually increased the pressure and began to take advantage of Roma's defensive difficulties.
Bruno Fernandes reduced the deficit from the penalty spot, before Matheus Cunha became the central figure in the comeback with two goals.
Manchester United eventually secured a 3-2 victory, leaving Roma with another result that will be difficult to accept.
The defeat is particularly frustrating because it follows a similar experience against Real Madrid earlier in the competition. Roma had also built a significant advantage in that match before allowing their opponents to turn the result around.
The issue is therefore becoming more than an isolated defensive mistake. Managing the emotional and tactical demands of important European matches will be essential if Gasperini's team want to progress.
Roma remain on four points after four games, with one victory, one draw and two defeats.
Their attacking potential is clear, but defensive concentration and match management need to improve.

Napoli suffer a heavy defeat against Porto

Napoli's visit to Portugal ended in a 4-1 defeat against Porto.
The home side made a positive start and took the lead through Bednarek in the eleventh minute.
Napoli responded before half-time, with Scott McTominay finding the equaliser in the 43rd minute.
The match remained competitive until the second half, when Porto increased their intensity and began to create more dangerous opportunities.
Gabri Veiga restored the Portuguese side's advantage in the 71st minute. Kiwior added another goal nine minutes later, and Samu converted a penalty in stoppage time to complete the 4-1 victory.
For Napoli, the result is a serious setback. They remain on three points after four matches and need a much stronger run if they want to keep their qualification hopes alive.
The defeat also highlights the importance of defensive organisation. Napoli were unable to contain Porto once the home side found momentum after the break.
Porto, meanwhile, finally collected an important victory, although their overall position remains difficult after a disappointing opening to the competition.

Real Madrid show their resilience again in Athens

Real Madrid continued their excellent European start with a dramatic 3-2 win away to AEK Athens.
José Mourinho's side were forced to work hard for the result, with the Greek hosts producing a competitive performance in front of their supporters.
Koita gave AEK the lead in the twelfth minute, but Jude Bellingham restored parity in the 32nd minute.
The second half brought another change of momentum. Pilios put AEK ahead in the 75th minute, only for Kylian Mbappé to equalise three minutes later.
Just when the match appeared to be heading towards a draw, Federico Valverde produced the decisive moment in the 92nd minute.
His late goal completed another comeback and preserved Real Madrid's perfect record.
The Spanish side now have 12 points from four matches. However, they sit second behind PSG because of the difference in goal difference.
Real Madrid have shown remarkable character, but the number of times they have needed to recover from difficult situations may become an important issue against stronger opponents later in the competition.

Fenerbahçe stun Liverpool in Istanbul

Liverpool suffered their first defeat of the league phase, losing 3-2 away to Fenerbahçe.
The English side initially looked capable of taking control when Nyoni scored in the 25th minute.
Fenerbahçe responded quickly through Greenwood, who equalised just four minutes later.
Liverpool moved ahead again through Isak in the 69th minute, but the home side refused to accept defeat.
Brown restored parity in the 73rd minute before Muriqi scored the decisive goal six minutes later.
The result gives Fenerbahçe an important victory against one of Europe's most respected clubs.
The Turkish side move to five points, keeping their qualification hopes alive, while Liverpool remain on nine.
It was a particularly disappointing result for the visitors because they had the opportunity to strengthen their position near the top of the standings.

PSG dominate Villarreal as Barcelona and Bayern also impress

Paris Saint-Germain produced one of the strongest performances of the round, winning 6-0 away to Villarreal.
The result allows the French side to remain at the top of the standings with 12 points and a goal difference of plus 15.
Barcelona also enjoyed an impressive evening, defeating Aston Villa 3-0 to reach nine points.
Bayern Munich secured an important 2-0 victory against Atlético de Madrid, moving to eight points and strengthening their position among the leading contenders.
Borussia Dortmund defeated Real Betis 2-1, while Manchester City won 3-2 away to Leipzig in a competitive encounter.
Arsenal also collected three points on the road, defeating Slavia Prague 2-1.
Club Brugge won 2-1 against PSV Eindhoven, Galatasaray beat Stuttgart 2-0 and LASK recorded a convincing 4-0 victory over Slovan Bratislava.
Viking completed a 4-1 win against Sabah, while Bodø/Glimt and Lille played out the only goalless draw of the round.

What the results mean for the qualification race

Four rounds have produced a fascinating picture at the top of the Champions League table.
Paris Saint-Germain remain the leading team thanks to their perfect record and impressive goal difference. Real Madrid are level on points, but Mourinho's side still have work to do if they want to overtake the French champions.
Arsenal occupy third place with ten points, while Como have become one of the most interesting teams in the competition.
Their 9-1 victory against Lens has strengthened their position in the top four and given them one of the best goal differences in the tournament.
Barcelona, Aston Villa, Manchester City and Liverpool are all on nine points. The competition for the direct qualification places is therefore becoming increasingly intense.
The situation is more complicated for the Italian clubs. Inter have recovered well and can approach the next fixtures with renewed confidence. Roma must address their defensive problems, while Napoli need to find a way to turn their performances into points.
Under the current format, the top eight teams qualify directly for the last 16. Clubs finishing between ninth and 24th enter the knockout phase play-offs, while the remaining twelve teams are eliminated.
The fifth round will take place on 24 and 25 November, with several important fixtures.
Como will face AEK Athens, Inter will host Stuttgart, Napoli travel to Manchester City and Real Madrid welcome PSV Eindhoven.
Roma face a particularly difficult assignment away to Paris Saint-Germain.
The next round could therefore have a major impact on the ambitions of several clubs.
After four matchdays, PSG and Real Madrid are setting the pace, Arsenal remain close behind and Como have become one of the biggest stories of the season.
Inter have found a response, Roma need to recover and Napoli cannot afford many more mistakes.
With 70 goals in one round, the 2026-27 Champions League has already delivered a memorable chapter. The most important matches, however, are still to come.
