One of the saddest things in life is spending your health trying to make money, then spending that money trying to get your health back.
And sometimes, even the money is not enough.

I've always found it interesting how seriously Nigerians take their cars compared with their bodies.
Your car makes one unusual sound, and you're already calling the mechanic.
The engine light comes on, and you become restless.
But your blood pressure has not been checked in three years.
Your belly keeps expanding.
You sleep four hours every night.
You swallow painkillers whenever your waist complains.
And your explanation is always the same.
"I'm fine. Nothing is wrong with me."
Wonderful.
Your car deserves preventive maintenance, but your kidneys must first submit a formal complaint before you pay attention.
Let me tell you something.
YOUR BODY CAN BE DEVELOPING A SERIOUS PROBLEM WHILE YOU STILL FEEL PERFECTLY NORMAL.
High blood pressure can damage your blood vessels, heart and kidneys for years without giving you a headache.
Type 2 diabetes can quietly affect your nerves, eyes and kidneys before you notice anything unusual.
Fatty liver disease can develop without pain. Some people discover it while investigating something completely different.
And because you feel fine, you assume you're healthy.
That's a dangerous assumption.
- YOUR KIDNEYS DON'T NEED YOUR PERMISSION TO DEVELOP PROBLEMS.
Some of you take ibuprofen and diclofenac every other day.
Headache? Diclofenac.
Waist pain? Diclofenac.
Knee pain? Another one.
At this point, your medicine cabinet has become a branch of the pharmacy.
Frequent misuse of these medicines can damage your kidneys and cause stomach bleeding.
And those herbal mixtures you swallow because somebody said they cleanse the blood?
Please, what exactly are you cleansing?
Your blood is not a dirty bedsheet.
Your liver and kidneys already perform important work processing and removing waste.
Some herbal preparations can actually injure these organs.
- THAT BELLY YOU'RE CALLING EVIDENCE OF ENJOYMENT?
I understand.
You've worked hard. You can finally afford good food.
Nobody is telling you to return to suffering.
But excess fat accumulating around your internal organs is associated with insulin resistance, fatty liver disease and cardiovascular problems.
A growing waistline is not always a harmless sign of prosperity.
Your bank account can be growing while your metabolic health is deteriorating.
Both things can happen together.
- SOME OF YOU ARE TAKING CARE OF EVERYBODY EXCEPT YOURSELVES.
You're paying your children's school fees.
Sending money to your parents.
Supporting your siblings.
Working overtime so your family can live comfortably.
And somewhere in the middle of all these responsibilities, you've quietly abandoned your own health.
You haven't checked your blood pressure.
You keep postponing medical appointments.
You eat whatever is available because you're always busy.
You tell yourself you'll begin exercising when things settle down.
But when exactly will life settle down?
After the children graduate?
After you finish building the house?
After everybody in your family becomes financially comfortable?
My brother, that meeting may never hold.
And here's something I want you to think about.
The people you're working so hard to provide for also need you alive and well enough to enjoy the life you're building with them.
Your children don't just need school fees.
They need their father.
Your wife doesn't just need a beautiful house.
She needs her husband.
And you deserve to enjoy the fruits of your own labour without spending your later years fighting preventable complications.
- WHAT CAN YOU START DOING TODAY?
Please, take some things seriously.
- Check your blood pressure regularly.
- Know your blood sugar levels.
- Eat proper meals with adequate protein, vegetables and other nutritious foods.
- Reduce excessive sugary drinks and heavily processed foods.
- Be physically active.
- Build and maintain muscle.
- Get adequate sleep.
- Stop abusing painkillers.
- Avoid swallowing herbal preparations simply because somebody recommends them.
- Visit a qualified healthcare professional for appropriate medical checks.
And yes, I'm still disturbing your peace about bread.
You can survive a morning without bread. I promise you that the Federal Government will not declare a state of emergency.
PLEASE, DON'T WAIT UNTIL YOUR BODY FORCES YOU TO REST BEFORE YOU LEARN HOW TO TAKE CARE OF IT.
There are people who would gladly exchange some of their money just to experience one ordinary day without pain, hospital appointments or worrying about their next medical result.
If you're healthy enough to make meaningful changes today, appreciate that opportunity.
WHY I STARTED DOCTOR OF THE FUTURE
I started Doctor of the Future because I believe people deserve to understand their bodies before things become serious.
And you don't have to pay me before you can learn something here.
If this is the kind of health education you want in your life, follow Doctor of the Future.
We'll talk about food, diseases, the human body and the habits that quietly shape our future.
Sometimes we'll laugh.
Sometimes we'll argue.
But I want you to leave here knowing something that could genuinely improve your life.
BECAUSE THE GOAL IS NOT JUST TO LIVE LONG ENOUGH TO MAKE MONEY. IT IS TO REMAIN HEALTHY ENOUGH TO ENJOY THE LIFE YOU WORKED SO HARD TO BUILD.
LET'S TALK!
When was the last time you checked your blood pressure or blood sugar?
Are you among those who only visit the hospital when something goes wrong?
Let's have an honest conversation in the comments.
Share this post with someone who needs this reminder. Your little action might encourage someone to take their health seriously.
