Playing with HE Liquidity Pools

Personally, I like trading tokens on HIVE-Engine platform. Unfortunately, the daily volume of most tokens is quite low. Serious users prefer using swap programs and liquidity pools.

TribalDex reports that users currently have $2.157M invested in 340 pools. There are 12 pools involving blurt including swaps with BTC, LTC, HIVE, STEEM, AFIT and more.

Each pool consists of a token pair. The tribaldex swap program lets users move tokens between the pairs.

As I am writing this post, the BLURT:HIVE Pair had 591,457.416 SWAP.BLURT and 8,881 SWAP.HIVE worth $1,078

If I sent 1 SWAP.BLURT to the pool, I would receive 0.014 HIVE in return . (hmmm, This is slightly higher than the current ASK price.)

It is wise to check both the swap and trading price before making a trade.

Each transaction shifts the price. Large transactions can have a huge impact on the pool. The impact is called slippage. When the pool is well funded the impact is low. It looks like I could swap 1000 BLURT into HIVE with a slippage under a percent.

There are several bots that troll the pools. These bots will make trades to keep the market and swap prices in line.

The swap program charges a small fee for each transaction which goes to the liquidity provider. When a pool is underfunded, the fee can be quite large.

Some of the swap programs offer distribution rewards for liquidity providers.

My Experience

This last year I've been secreting funds into the TribalDex Liquidity Pools. I currently have 1,294,329 tokens worth $26.57 . I have earned 7,483 tokens and a boatload of LP rewards.

Unfortunately, the price of the underlying tokens are falling faster than the rewards rack up. I am actually down on my investments.

But that will all change. I am sure it will. It's just gotta.

I made the monumental decision last year that I will start sluffing off some of my curation rewards.

My idea is to stake 100% of my author rewards and to sluff off 90% of my author rewards.

I move the funds through Coinbase; so, I am accumulating funds in LTC with the goal of pushing LTC to coinbase.

My Investments

The primary pools that I am using are:

I have 1,003 SWAP.BLURT and 14 HIVE worth $1.411 in the BLURT:HIVE. I want to keep this swap at at least 1000 BLURT. I've made one penny so far on this investment.

I have 147 STEEM and 0.14961793 LTC worth $12.99 in the STEEM:LTC. This swap is underfunded. My investment is worth 33% of the pool. One can only swap 2 steem at a time without being bowled over by the slippage. I've earned 0.0046 LTC + 4.79 STEEM worth $0.42 on this investment.

I have 88.57 HIVE + 0.10226756 LTC in the HIVE:LTC swap. I've earned $0.264 in this one. I will periodically empty this investment and transfer the funds to coinbase.

Conclusion

I prefer to use the exchange for trading funds. The tribaldex pools are useful for people wanting to engage in more consistent transactions.

I've sunk about $40 into the investment pools this last year. The value of the coins has dropped faster than the interest earned on the coins. If the market stabilizes, the pools might prove to be a good investment.

The best thing about the pools is that the money I invested in the pool is liquid. If I needed to; I could withdraw and spend these funds in a single session.

I generated the images of money between turned into liquid on Night Cafe.
