Blurt Witness Weekly #2 (DE/EN)

Blurt Witness Weekly #2

One week has passed since the first edition of my Blurt Witness statistics project.

Now the project is starting to become much more interesting.

The first report was mainly a starting point. This time there is enough historical data in the database to compare two snapshots almost seven days apart and see what actually changed.

For this report, I compare the data from October 5, 2026 at 16:50 UTC with the snapshot from October 12, 2026 at 15:30 UTC.

Ranks moved, votes changed, missed blocks were added and there was even a change at the bottom of the Top 100.

The current Top 20

The number in brackets behind the rank shows the movement compared with the previous report.

20 (=)@blurtconnect-ng6,136,242,555,827+00.9.1

Overall, the Top 20 remained remarkably stable.

There were four direct position changes. @marendan moved from rank 5 to rank 4 and passed @fervi. @gamer0815 moved from rank 12 to rank 11 and passed @contrabourdon.

@blurtspace improved from rank 14 to 13 and moved ahead of @outofthematrix. @apokruphos climbed from rank 16 to 15, while @kentzz001 moved down to rank 16.

All other positions within the Top 20 remained unchanged.

Movement in Witness votes

The ranking itself was relatively quiet, but underneath the surface the vote values moved considerably in some cases.

The largest increases among the Witnesses that were present at both comparison points were:

WitnessVote change
@marendan+123.53 billion
@gamer0815+122.18 billion
@blurtspace+115.70 billion
@freakeao+75.26 billion
@megadrive+65.51 billion

The largest decreases were:

WitnessVote change
@blurtconnect-ng-129.82 billion
@saboin-12.32 billion
@nalexadre-10.50 billion
@tekraze-8.35 billion
@world-travel-pro-7.46 billion

Of the 99 Witnesses that were present at both comparison points, 57 gained votes, 23 lost votes and 19 remained unchanged.

Within the Top 20, the largest percentage decrease was recorded by @blurtconnect-ng with approximately 2.07 percent.

On the positive side, @gamer0815 gained approximately 1.63 percent, @blurtspace around 1.59 percent and @marendan around 1.35 percent.

This is a good example of why looking only at the ranking does not tell the whole story.

5,302 new missed blocks

This is probably the most interesting number of the week.

During the observation period, a total of 101 different Witnesses appeared in the Top 100 because there was one change at rank 100.

During the periods in which these Witnesses were monitored inside the Top 100, their missed-block counters increased by a combined:

5,302 missed blocks

67 Witnesses recorded at least one additional missed block.

34 Witnesses showed no increase during their observed period.

The largest increases were:

WitnessNew Missed Blocks
@zahidsun+2,289
@etainclub+344
@kamranrkploy+310
@ytyeasin+271
@imransoudagar+227
@nabeeel+214
@jacobgadikian+212
@busbecq+157
@openb+132
@pixelwide+126

One value immediately stands out.

The missed-block counter of @zahidsun alone increased by 2,289.

That represents roughly 43 percent of all newly recorded missed blocks in this week's dataset.

If we look only at the current Top 20, their counters increased by a combined 2,393 missed blocks.

2,289 of those came from @zahidsun alone.

That means around 96 percent of the new missed blocks within the current Top 20 came from a single Witness.

Of course, this statistic does not tell us why blocks were missed. There can be different technical reasons for an increasing missed-block counter. The purpose of this report is first of all to document the changes.

Seven current Top 20 Witnesses recorded no additional missed blocks during the comparison period:

@marendan, @drakernoise, @dagobert007, @nalexadre, @megadrive, @freakeao and @blurtconnect-ng.

My own Witness @hornet-on-tour remained on rank 9 and recorded one additional missed block during the week.

One change in the Top 100

There was also some movement at the very bottom of the ranking.

In the previous report, rank 100 was occupied by:

@khanhbuon

During the week, @khanhbuon dropped out of the Top 100.

The new rank 100 is:

@condeas

The change happened on October 6.

So while the upper part of the ranking remained relatively stable, there was at least some movement at the border of the Top 100.

Witness software versions

The current version distribution among the Top 100 looks like this:

VersionWitnesses
0.9.114
0.9.020
0.8.220
0.8.12
0.8.01
0.7.017
0.5.03
0.2.022
0.0.01

Interestingly, none of the 99 Witnesses that were present at both comparison points changed their reported software version during the week.

The small change in the overall distribution came from the change at rank 100.

@khanhbuon reported version 0.0.0.

@condeas reports version 0.7.0.

So this was not an observed software update of an existing Witness, but simply a change in which account was inside the Top 100.

A technical interruption

My statistics system also had its first real technical problem this week.

The RPC endpoint used by the collector became unavailable and returned HTTP 503 errors. Because of this, there is a gap in the database between October 11 at 20:50 UTC and October 12 at 15:26 UTC.

That is approximately 18 hours and 36 minutes without intermediate snapshots.

The collector has now been switched to:

`https://rpc.blurt.blog`

and data collection is running again.

For cumulative values such as missed blocks, the gap does not prevent us from seeing how much the counter changed between the last snapshot before the interruption and the first snapshot afterwards.

What we cannot see are the exact intermediate movements during those hours.

But this is also part of developing such a project. Problems appear, they are identified and the system gets improved.

One of the next steps will therefore be making the collector more resistant to the failure of individual RPC endpoints.

The project is starting to become useful

This second report already shows very well why I wanted to build the database in the first place.

A normal Witness list tells us where everybody stands right now.

It does not tell us that @marendan gained more than 123 billion in vote value, that @gamer0815 moved up to rank 11, that the missed-block counter of one Witness increased by more than 2,000 or that the account at rank 100 changed.

For that, we need historical data.

And that data is now accumulating week by week.

The plan remains the same. I want to publish a new Blurt Witness Weekly report once a week and continue improving the statistics behind it.

If you notice something interesting in the numbers or have an idea for another statistic that should be included in future reports, feel free to write it in the comments.

Let's see what the next week brings.

Blurt Witness Weekly #2

@marendan+123,53 Mrd.
@gamer0815+122,18 Mrd.
@blurtspace+115,70 Mrd.
@freakeao+75,26 Mrd.
@megadrive+65,51 Mrd.

Die größten Rückgänge:

@blurtconnect-ng-129,82 Mrd.
@saboin-12,32 Mrd.
@nalexadre-10,50 Mrd.
@tekraze-8,35 Mrd.
@world-travel-pro-7,46 Mrd.

WitnessNeue Missed Blocks
@zahidsun+2.289
@etainclub+344
@kamranrkploy+310
@ytyeasin+271
@imransoudagar+227
@nabeeel+214
@jacobgadikian+212
@busbecq+157
@openb+132
@pixelwide+126

@marendan, @drakernoise, @dagobert007, @nalexadre, @megadrive, @freakeao und @blurtconnect-ng.

@khanhbuon

@condeas

Der Wechsel fand am 6. Oktober statt.

@khanhbuon meldete Version 0.0.0.

@condeas meldet Version 0.7.0.

`https://rpc.blurt.blog`

Dafür braucht man historische Daten.

Mein Plan bleibt deshalb bestehen.

Mal sehen, was uns die nächste Woche bringt.
