OPENING

OPENING
-Welcome to BIG NEWS, all our dear readers and friends of BIGVERSO. This week we return with all the details you missed from Big's stories. Let's begin:

❤️ Love Stories ❤️
-Flor Lins, the single mother of little Alberto, consults Zurita—a man with a law degree—in the town of Amor. She fears that her son's biological father might try to take the boy away after discovering that the father is alive and married in the capital.

-Flor asks if getting married would guarantee her custody. Zurita assures her that it would: if she marries and her husband adopts the child, no judge would take him away. He also reminds her of her good reputation as a hardworking, devoted mother since arriving in town.

-Zurita mentions her two respectable suitors: Heriberto Quintales, a young, hardworking man from one of the town's founding families, and Antonio Lombardo, an honest Italian baker.

-However, Flor forces a smile and leaves, heavy-hearted. She knows she would never win a custody battle for her son; her past as a "flower of the night" would come to light if Engineer Alberto Medina revealed where he had met her.

-She decides to flee immediately on the CFC steamship departing the next day for the "Pearl of the Caribbean"—the same way she had arrived in town.

-That very night, she packs her suitcase, leaves it at a boarding house near the docks, and writes three letters.

-One is a thank-you note to Doña Olga and Florencia Flores; another, similar in tone, is for Antonio, to be delivered to him by Doña Olga at the inn the following morning.
-And a more personal one for Heriberto, in which she tells the story of the boy's father (without naming Medina) but does not reveal his true past. At the last moment, she decides to hand-deliver it to his home; there, they make love, and she makes him swear not to open the letter until the following noon.

-The next day, after mass, Flor bids Heriberto farewell from a distance and heads to the dock. Doña Olga hands the letter to Antonio at the inn.

-At the same time Heriberto reads his letter at home, both men rush desperately to the dock, but the ship has already set sail.

-Ironically, Medina was not looking for Flor, nor did he suspect the boy's existence; he was in town solely for work.

-That night, the two friends drown their sorrows in rum; Heriberto keeps secret the fact that Flor chose him as her boyfriend—and their intimate night together—so as not to cause Antonio further pain.

-And so ends another love story in the town of Love ❤️
🪶The Memoirs of Lucía Bentley 🪶
-Jane enters her daughter Lucía’s room and finds her backpack already packed under the bed.

-The six-year-old girl insists on joining the family for the Apache treasure hunt in Arizona, along with her dog, Odi. She argues that she can squeeze through narrow tunnels and that the dog, using his sense of smell, will lead them to the treasure.

-Jane explains that treasure hunting isn't just adventure and fun; there are deadly traps and dangerous people. And in the open Arizona wilderness, there are wild beasts like wolves, bears, and venomous snakes.

-She points out the risk of Odi getting hurt while defending her and asks Lucía to consider how the adults would feel if she were to get injured.

-Finally, she promises that Lucía can go once she turns sixteen and has learned how to defend herself and handle a weapon. Lucía protests.

-Later, at the general store, her father Colt reinforces the decision and raises the age requirement to twenty, sparking more laughter.

-Lucía reluctantly agrees to stay behind with Aunt Berenice, Grandpa Morgan, and Odi; they close up the store and head to Aunt Berenice’s house.

-The group heads to the train station. -There, Pierre loads the expedition gear into the freight car, camouflaging Winchester rifles, ammunition, and dynamite among the tents and food supplies.

-After stepping off the train car, someone sneaks in unseen and leaves a “lovely memento” for the Jones-Bentley family.

-At Aunt Berenice’s house, Lucía pretends to be asleep, puts on her jacket and hat, and tosses her backpack out the window before climbing down a rope.

-She leaves Odi behind with instructions to play dead if anyone enters, just to buy some time.

-Meanwhile, a man elegantly dressed in black—a ghost from Morgan’s past—appears in front of the house. The old man was expecting him.

-Recognizing him from the kitchen, Berenice feels a shiver run down her spine: it is the dangerous man who had previously visited her shop.

🎃October Halloween Fest🎃
-As we enter October—the spookiest month of the year, when haunted houses, decorated pumpkins, monsters, vampires, werewolves, ghosts, and, of course, witches take over the night—Big has decided to treat us to several Halloween stories 🎃 perfect for the season. So, for a few weeks, the usual BigVerse stories are stepping aside to make room for them.
-This week we kick off with two Halloween stories 🎃. First up is "The Mad Monk," featuring a complaining Lieutenant Judy Hoops and her partner, Sergeant Hernández—who is involved quite reluctantly.

-They have to deal with a dangerous sexual predator nicknamed "The Mad Monk"—a man who, dressed as a Franciscan monk, targets university parties in Chaotic City on Halloween night.

-The second Halloween story 🎃 is titled "Lucky." We follow a loser named Alfonzo as he attends a Halloween party at a mysterious club called "La Muerte" (Death).

-The man puts on an old polar bear costume he first wore in high school, leaving his cat, Antifaz, behind. We’ll see what happens when dawn breaks.

RANKINGS of the WEEK

The hardest image of the week:
-Every image of Alfonzo in that damn polar bear suit; it drove me absolutely crazy.

🦇 The Return of the Vampire Cat 🦇

-Welcome to your favorite BIG NEWS segment. With Vampire Wars on hiatus due to the 🎃 October Halloween Fest 🎃, this week we review Count Catulad's latest adventure, complete with all the details.

-Many thanks, "Bones." We kick things off in the "P" Neighborhood; while Count Catulad searches for gold bars, his faithful Pekingese, Peinfield, is urgently looking for a home on his laptop.

The main goal is to get away from that neighborhood: to escape the witch Sonia Pickles and the hunt for the "mini-tigers'" house. Peinfield is also worried about his master's risky flirtation with the white cat, Gelatina. Although she might not remember past lives, the goddess Bastet would remember the promise made in Brazov, given enough time.

-The dog finds an ideal property: large, with dark, secure underground levels for his master's coffin, located outside the city and at a low price. He notes down all the details.
-In the east of Chaotic City, inside the "Ribs & Steaks" butcher shop warehouse, Lieutenant Phineas reports to his boss, Rocko.

-He has carried out the orders, though he questions the need to eliminate the French poodles. Rocko insists it is a matter of power and intimidation: if word gets out that a cat killed a member of their gang, they will lose the respect and fear they command.

-He orders a search for the black cat and the small Pekingese all over the city, but Phineas reminds him that they cannot cross into the center or the west without running into trouble with the gangs of The Godfather and Fu Manchu.

-Phineas suggests hiring Tardam, but Rocko rejects the rat, as he distrusts him and knows he has dealings with cats.
In the west, beneath the municipal market in the sewers, reigns Tardam, the rat boss. He receives a visit from Micifus, a captain for The Godfather.

-Micifus demands results regarding the search for the black cat and the Pekingese. Tardam replies that they haven't found them yet and that the task would be easier with Edilberto—the only one who saw them up close and survived.

-Micifus reminds him of the orders: locate them and give the word; they will handle the rest. Back in the "P" Neighborhood, Count Catulad lands and drops two heavy 24-karat gold bars in the Witch Pickles' garden. Peinfield greets him with relief.

-The cat mentions a setback and asks about the dog they dropped onto the roof of the Excelsior Tower the other night; he found nothing there, as if someone had cleaned up the scene. Peinfield confirms he saw it fall there, right next to a toy helicopter.

-Peinfield wants to bury the gold in the garden, but his master stops him: witches have an excellent sense of smell, and Sonia would detect the metal and steal the gold.

-They decide to hide it in another nearby garden, but one that is out of range of Pickles' nose. Since time is short and the witch might return, Catulad picks up the gold bars and Peinfield, leaps onto the sidewalk, and the pair goes looking for another house's garden.

-Two huge black rats, Ronald and Jim—who were scavenging for food in a trash can—watch them. Jim recognizes the black cat with the white mark and the Pekingese; they decide to follow the pair to report back to their boss, Tardam.

-Count Catulad is increasingly besieged, making enemies everywhere, and now Tardam's rats have tracked him down. Many thanks to M for the report.

ENDING
-Thank you very much to everyone who read this far. BiG NEWS will be back next week. Good morning, afternoon, or evening, depending on the time zone you are reading this in.
